In this recent report, researchers in the United States conducted a study "To determine whether combined positron emission tomography and computed tomography (PETCT) may be of value in deferring planned neck dissections for patients with advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). Observational study of patients with de novo cervical >= N2 regional spread of HNSCC in a tertiary care academic medical center."
