Fudan University details research in cervical cancer prevention

Research findings, 'EMMPRIN expression as a prognostic factor in radiotherapy of cervical cancer,' are discussed in a new report. "Overexpression of extracellular matrix metalloproteinase inducer (EMMPRIN), a member of the immunoglobulin family and a glycoprotein enriched on the surface of many types of tumor cells, has been reported to be linked to invasion, metastasis, growth, and survival of malignant cells. Cervical cancer, the second most prevalent cancer in women worldwide and the fifth leading cause of cancer deaths, responds to radiotherapy variably, with 30% of cases recurring after therapy," scientists writing in the journal Clinical Cancer Research report.
