According to a study from Hefei, People's Republic of China, "The transition metal cadmium (Cd) has been shown to induce apoptosis in a variety of cell lines and tissues. Caspase activation of the tumor suppressor gene p53 and mitogen-activated protein kinase ( MAPK) signaling cascades have been reported to be involved in Cd-induced apoptosis."
