Fresh data on hepatitis C virus are presented in the report 'New developments in the antiviral treatment of hepatitis C.' "Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major cause of liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. HCV is endemic in most parts of the world, with an estimated 170 million people infected worldwide and 3-4 million new cases each year," investigators in Amsterdam, Netherlands report.
