Study results from University of Manitoba, Manitoba Institute of Cell Biology update understanding of genetics and apoptosis

2010 DEC 14 -- Scientists discuss in 'Role of BNIP3 in proliferation and hypoxia-induced autophagy: implications for personalized cancer therapies' new findings in genetics and apoptosis. According to recent research published in the journal Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences, "Autophagy is a regulated degradation pathway functioning in both cell survival and cell death. Its role in cancer is controversial because autophagy can be either protective or destructive to tumor cells, depending on individual genetic signatures and treatment conditions."
