Findings from University of California, Davis Cancer Center provide new insights into head and neck cancer

2010 DEC 21 -- A new study, 'Evaluating the role of prophylactic gastrostomy tube placement prior to definitive chemoradiotherapy for head and neck cancer,' is now available. In this recent study, researchers in the United States conducted a study "To determine the effect of prophylactic gastrostomy tube (GT) placement on acute and long-term outcome for patients treated with definitive chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced head and neck cancer. One hundred twenty consecutive patients were treated with chemoradiotherapy for Stage III/IV head and neck cancer to a median dose of 70 Gy (range, 64-74 Gy)."
