Classmates Plan Hometown Benefit to Help Fitness Expert, Elaine Casas Gjonovich, Beat Cancer

2011 MAR 15 -- Whittier High School graduates from the class of 1977 are putting on a benefit for Elaine Casas Gjonovich on March 26, 2010 from 4 to 7 p.m. in Uptown Whittier. The event will help raise funds to cover medical and living expenses for this beloved fellow student. Gjonovich, a wife, mother and grandmother, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, cholangiocarcinoma.

Fifty-one year-old Gjonovich went in for a routine doctor's visit in June 2010 and a blood panel showed elevated levels of alkaline phosphates. Further tests in June 2010 diagnosed the rare cancer. Cholangiocarcinoma is a cancerous growth in one of the ducts that carries bile...
