WonderLab museum exhibit alerts mom to son's heart condition

A trip to a children's science museum turned out to be quite a day of discovery for a 5-year-old boy after an exhibit alerted his mother to her son's possible heart condition. The WonderLab hands-on museum has a Rhythm of Life exhibit in which two people sit on either side of a black bass drum and grasp a horizontal metal bar. Brass sensors in the bar detect each person's pulse, which triggers a drumstick to beat in time with the person's heart. Melissa Hinkle told The Herald-Times for a November 16, 2004, story that her drumstick was beating about 80 times per minute, while her son Harrison's was beating at 150 times per minute.
