Aprotinin reduced bleeding in bypass surgery patients on anti-platelet drugs

Patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG), who were taking anti-platelet drugs like clopidogrel (Plavix) prior to their operation, experienced less bleeding and a decreased need for blood transfusions when they received intraoperative Trasylol (aprotinin injection). These study results were presented at the American Heart Association's (AHA) Scientific Sessions. Two studies examined the use of Trasylol in CABG patients who received clopidogrel and aspirin or clopidogrel alone less than 5 days before surgery.
