Portal hypertension-based rat model suitable for study

A portal hypertension-based rat model is suitable for use in the study of hepatic encephalopathy.

"The serious neuropsychological repercussions of hepatic encephalopathy have led to the creation of several experimental models in order to better understand the pathogenesis of the disease," according to researchers in Spain.

In a study conducted by L. Garcia-Moreno and coauthors at Complutense University, "two possible causes of hepatic encephalopathy, cholestasis and portal hypertension, were chosen to study the behavioral impairments caused by the disease using an object recognition task."
