Malignant ascites researcher receives grant

The LEO Pharma Research Foundation has granted Dr. Anton K. Ulstrup, Clinic of Internal Medicine I, Bispebjerg Hospital, Copenhagen Hospital Corporation, University of Copenhagen, Denmark, DKK 62,000 in support of his project "Calprotectin - a new marker of malignant ascites'"

The study may lead to improvement in diagnosis of malignancy-related ascites.

Malignant disease is often a cause of intraabdominal fluid accumulation i.e. ascites, which is a frequent symptom in patients suffering from e.g. colorectal or gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, uterine or ovarian cancer, and in patients with metastatic cancer of the liver.
