According to a study from Bulgaria, "The aim of the present study was to determine whether cobalt poisoning induces haem oxidase isoenzyme-1 (HO-1) in coronary artery smooth muscle, or accounts for any changes in coronary smooth muscle cell (SMCs) membrane ionic currents that could result from this type of heavy metal poisoning."
