Standardized guidelines needed for the evaluation and treatment of neonatal SVT

According to recent research from the United States, there are few studies on neonatal cerebral sinovenous thrombosis(SVT). The researchers undertook "to describe the presentations, treatments, and outcomes of neonatal SVT and to assess infarction as a predictor of outcome" for a retrospective chart study in an effort to develop standardized guidelines for treatment.

The study was conducted at a tertiary pediatric hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. The subjects were 42 children "with neonatal SVT identified using International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision code searches from 1986-June 2005 and review of neurology clinic records."
