Appellate Court Rules That $2.7 Million Heart Transplant Verdict Should Stand

On June 25, 2008, the Illinois Appellate Court reversed a Cook County trial judge and reinstated a verdict for $2.7 million against Loyola University Medical Center. On December 12, 2005, a twelve person jury in Cook County, Illinois awarded $2,700,000.00 to the estate of a fifty-eight (58) year old man who died following an attempted heart transplant surgery at Loyola University Medical Center. The verdict was widely publicized in both the local and national legal and popular press.
