Scientists discuss in 'Functional polymorphisms of matrix metallopeptidase-9 and risk of coronary artery disease in a Chinese population' new findings in coronary heart disease. According to a study from Nanjing, People's Republic of China, "Matrix metallopeptidase-9 (MMP-9) plays a pivotal role in vascular remodeling and development of atherosclerotic lesion. The potentially functional MMP-9 polymorphisms may contribute to the susceptibility of coronary artery disease (CAD)."
