Androgen receptors are prevalent in three salivary gland malignancies

Three types of salivary gland tumors are characterized by the presence of androgen receptors (but not estrogen or progesterone receptors); these may be involved in pathogenesis.

According to a study from the United States, "The expression of sex hormone receptors in some tumors suggests a role for these receptors in tumor pathogenesis and therapy. Previous studies of the expression of estrogen and progesterone receptors in salivary gland tumors have reported conflicting results.
