Study 1: C-11-acetate positron emission tomography (AC-PET) could be used to diagnose pulmonary nodules when PET with [F-18]-fluorodeoxy-glucose (FDG-PET) fails.
"FDG-PET frequently gives false-negative results for well-differentiated adenocarcinomas of the lung, especially, those with ground-glass opacity images. Recently, AC-PET has been reported to detect slow-growing tumors that have failed to be identified by FDG-PET, such as well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinomas and prostate cancers," scientists in Japan reported.
