Mucositis and dermatitis in head and neck cancer patients improved with zinc supplementation

Zinc supplementation could be administered to head and neck cancer patients to accelerate the healing of mucositis and dermatitis after radiotherapy.

According to a recent article published in the International Journal of Radiation Oncology Biology Physics, scientists in Taiwan conducted research "to determine whether zinc supplementation can accelerate the healing of mucositis and dermatitis after radiotherapy. In this double-blind study, patients were placed into 2 randomized groups (experimental and control) of 50 patients each. The groups were homogeneous with respect to medical history, tumor characteristics, and therapeutic details."
