Studies from Kaohsiung Medical University, Graduate Institute of Natural Products yield new data on cancer therapy

Investigators publish new data in the report 'Tubocapsenolide A, a novel withanolide, inhibits proliferation and induces apoptosis in MDA-MB-231 cells by thiol oxidation of heat shock proteins.' "Tubocapsenolide A (TA), a novel withanolide-type steroid, exhibits potent cytotoxicity against several human cancer cell lines. In the present study, we observed that treatment of human breast cancer MDA-MB-231 cells with TA led to cell cycle arrest at G(1) phase and apoptosis," scientists writing in the Journal of Biological Chemistry report.
