Polymorphism increases disease risk in some premenopausal Japanese women

A polymorphism in the CYP19 gene has been linked with increased risk of breast cancer in a group of premenopausal Japanese women. "The production of estrogen from androgen via the estrogen biosynthesis pathway is catalyzed by aromatase P450 (CYP19). To assess the association between breast cancer risk and a polymorphism at codon 39 Trpl Arg of the encoding gene, a case-control study was conducted at Aichi Cancer Center Hospital in Japan.
