Senate committee approves funding for new U.S. CDC lab in Colorado

A Senate committee has authorized $44.4 million to finish construction of a new Fort Collins laboratory for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Construction of the lab, slated to replace the CDC's aging bioterrorism facility, began in August. The Senate Appropriations Committee had approved about $37 million for the project during the past 3 fiscal years, according to Senator Wayne Allard, R-Colorado, who supports the project. Allard spokesman Stephen Myers said the House Appropriations Committee also has authorized spending $44.4 million to finish construction.
