High school senior takes cow reproduction insemination to World Dairy Expo

You'd better believe she gets good grades in health and biology classes.

Just a senior in high school, Portia Holtegaard has already handled the artificial insemination of about 100 cows on her parent's farm.

"The more you do it, the easier it gets," Holtegaard said. "It really helps to see the whole reproductive system on a table."

The reproductive track was laid out for her to see last summer at a workshop on artificial insemination. Over the daylong session Holtegaard, then age 16, learned how to clean the cow, prepare the semen and deliver it into the cow by inserting a steel rod and guiding it through to the uterus....
