Short term, targeted approach is best way to encourage weight loss in teens, stud shows

As the obesity epidemic among youths and its associated risks for later health problems grow, health researchers are finding that many current programs aimed at preventing unhealthy weight gain in young people fall short. A research review shows that brief, targeted interventions that focus on weight loss only can be successful.

Findings are reported in a recent issue of Psychological Bulletin, published by the American Psychological Association (APA).
