Reports outline alzheimer disease study results from University of Saskatchewan, Department of Psychiatry

A report, "Potential inplications of endogenous aldehydes in beta-amyloid misfolding, oligomerization and fibrillogenesis," is newly published data in Journal of Neurochemistry. "Aldehydes are capable of inducing protein cross-linkage. An increase in aldehydes has been found in Alzheimer's disease," investigators in Saskatoon, Canada report.

"Formaldehyde and methylglyoxal are produced via deamination of, respectively, methylamine and aminoacetone catalyzed by semicarbazide-sensitive amine oxidase (SSAO, EC 1.4.3.6.
