Mylan Laboratories Launches Amlodipine Besylate Tablets and Has Triggered Its 180 Days of Exclusivity

Mylan Laboratories Inc. (NYSE:MYL) today launched Amlodipine Besylate Tablets, 2.5 mg (base), 5 mg (base) and 10 mg (base). Amlodipine Besylate Tablets are the generic version of Pfizer's Norvasc(R) Tablets, which had U.S. sales of approximately $2.7 billion for the 12-month period ended December 31, 2006, according to IMS Health. Mylan was the first generic company to file on all strengths of amlodipine and therefore has triggered its 180 days of exclusivity. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit in Washington ruled yesterday that the last remaining patent in place for amlodipine besylate is invalid.
