Squamous Cell Carcinoma Risk Factors
Researchers from University of Texas, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center detail new studies and findings in the area of squamous cell carcinoma risk factors

Fresh data on squamous cell carcinoma are presented in the report "Polymorphic TP53BP1 and TP53 gene interactions associated with risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. Tumor protein 53-binding protein 1 (TP53BP1) and TP53 interact during TP53-mediated transcriptional activation and during checkpoint activation in response to DNA damage. Because suboptimal repair of tobacco-induced DNA damage is associated with risk of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (SCCHN), we hypothesized that potentially functional polymorphisms in TP53BP1 and TP53 may contribute jointly to SCCHN risk," scientists in the United States report.
