According to a study from Tokyo, Japan, "The concept of antimicrobial prophylaxis (AMP) did not exist in Japan until recently. Therefore, postoperative administration of antimicrobial drugs has long been practiced under the pretext of prophylaxis against surgical site infection (SSI)."
