Consumer Research Indicates Many are Unaware of Presence of Acrylamide in Foods

While consumer research shows individuals exhibit a low level of awareness of acrylamide, major North American government agencies are taking note of the potentially harmful substance. Last week, the Government of Canada recommended placing acrylamide on its list of toxic substances. Additionally, the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a request for data on acrylamide in food to gather information on industry practices used to reduce acrylamide levels. The agency is considering issuing guidance for industry on reduction of acrylamide levels in food products in order to provide further insight surrounding the public health impact of acrylamide in humans.
