Violent Offender Sentenced to 480 Months in a Federal Penitentiary for Using a Firearm to Commit a Crime of Violence, Bank Robbery and Carjacking

United States District Judge Gregory Presnell sentenced Tracy J. Garrett, 44, of Orlando to 480 months (40 years) in a federal penitentiary for multiple counts of carjacking and using a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence.

According to court documents Garrett was indicted by a federal grand jury. These charges included carjacking and bank robbery. Garrett carjacked two female victims at gunpoint. He then drove the victim's vehicle to Bank of America locations in Orlando and robbed them of more than $6,500. Due to the violence associated with Garrett's crimes, he was exposed to significant federal sentencing guidelines.
