Vaccine Induces Specific Mucosal Antibody Responses in Humans

A nasal whole-cell pertussis vaccine induced specific systemic and cross-reactive mucosal antibody responses in human volunteers, reported researchers in Norway.

"A whole-cell pertussis vaccine, each dose consisting of 250 (mu)g of protein, was given intranasally four times at weekly intervals to six adult volunteers," stated A.K.H. Berstad and colleagues, National Institute Public Health, Norway ("A nasal whole-cell pertussis vaccine induces specific: Systemic and cross-reactive mucosal antibody responses in human volunteers," Journal of Medical Microbiology, 2000;49(2):157-163).
