Nifedipine GITS Effective in Heart Disease Patients

The drug nifedipine GITS has been deemed an effective therapeutic agent for patients with chronic stable angina, according to a study conducted in Barcelona, Spain. A.F. Garcia and others investigated the use of this compound in 1,076 men and women with stable angina. Patient age was 63.5 ± 12.8 years. Forty-three percent of the patients had previous history of myocardial infarction. Nifedipine GITS was administered at 30-60 mg/day for six months, according to the study protocol.
