Saponin QS-21 Has Potential as Mucosal Adjuvant

Saponin QS-21 may be useful as a mucosal vaccine adjuvant, reported researchers from the United States. "QS-21 is a purified triterpene glycoside adjuvant derived from the bark of the South American tree Quillaja saponaria Molina," explained Charlotte Read Kensil from Aquila Biopharmaceuticals, Inc., Massachusetts, USA. "It has received extensive preclinical evaluation as a parenteral adjuvant."
