Toprol-XL Reduces Hospitalizations, Increases Survival

Adding the beta-blocker Toprol-XL (metoprolol succinate) extended release tablets to standard treatment in patients with congestive heart failure improved survival, reduced hospitalizations, and improved patients' well being, according to the Metoprolol CR/XL (Controlled Release) Randomized Intervention Trial in Heart Failure (MERIT-HF) Study. The study results were published in the March 8, 2000, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.
