Genetically Modified Growth Hormone May Offer Hope for Treatment

According to a study published in the April 19, 2000, edition of the New England Journal of Medicine, an investigational drug for the treatment of acromegaly was effective in 89% of patients and was well tolerated.

Somavert (pegvisomant for injection), manufactured by Sensus, is designed to block the effects of excessive growth hormone production by a pituitary tumor.
