Volume, Not Price, Continues To Drive Higher Drug Spending

New research released March 15, 2001, concludes that increased use of medicines, not rising prices, continues to be the primary cause of higher prescription drug spending.

Protocare Sciences has released the first study examining data on drug spending through mid-2000. Using the same methodology from a peer-reviewed article published in Health Affairs in 2000, the current study compares spending data for July 1995-June 1996 with July 1999-June 2000.
