Clinical Benefits Of Immunosuppressant Equal Economic Advantages

The costs associated with kidney transplantation may be cut by using a more effective immunosuppressant that reduces the level of organ rejection, a major European study has revealed.

Results of this cost-effectiveness study were announced by Dr. A. Vianello of Treviso Transplant Centre (Treviso, Italy), at the 10th Congress of the European Society for Organ Transplantation (ESOT), held in Lisbon, Portugal.

The costs of transplantation begin with the transplant procedure itself. In the longer term, the major costs are, firstly, the cost of immunosuppressant drugs to prevent rejection, and secondly, the cost of treating patients should these drugs...
