Many hospital admissions for medication-related effects avoidable

Interaction between medications is a likely cause for many hospital admissions of elderly patients for drug toxicity, with many of these interactions avoidable.

According to a study in the April 2, 2003, issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association, drug-drug interactions are a preventable cause of illness and death, yet their consequences in the community are not well-characterized.
