Metabolic Syndrome

New data presented for Crestor in patients with metabolic syndrome

New data presented from the COmparative study with rosuvastatin in subjects with METabolic Syndrome (COMETS) showed that at the 20mg dosages AstraZeneca's (AZN) Crestor (rosuvastatin calcium) reduced LDL or "bad" cholesterol 49% and raised HDL or "good" cholesterol by more than 10%, a statistically significant finding compared to another commonly prescribed statin, atorvastatin, in patients with metabolic syndrome.

COMETS, presented at the 40th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) in Munich, Germany, is the first international prospective study of statin treatment in people with the metabolic syndrome.
