Investigators in the United States have published new cardiology data. Study 1: A recent report describes peroxisomal and mitochondrial oxidation of fatty acids in the heart, assessed from the 13C labeling of malonyl-CoA and the acetyl moiety of citrate. According to scientists in the United States, "We previously showed that a fraction of the acetyls used to synthesize malonyl-CoA in rat heart derives from partial peroxisomal oxidation of very long and long-chain fatty acids.
