Alzheimer disease rat model offers insights into biomarker identification

Samaritan Pharmaceuticals Inc. (LIV) announced that its "Alzheimer Rat Model," a tool which enables researchers to create an Alzheimer disease-like profile in rats and test new Alzheimer drugs, closely reproduces the phenotype of Alzheimer.

A manuscript describing the model was published in the Journal Pharmacology (2006, vol. 76, pages 19-33).

Dr. Janet Greeson, CEO of Samaritan stated, "What we have found to be so important about this animal model is that there are concomitant changes in neurohistopathology, and memory loss, coupled with changes in spinal fluid proteins (a method used to diagnose Alzheimer disease in humans.)
