Angiogenesis flourishes in models with tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloproteinase-3 (TIMP-3) gene deficiency. "Tumor cells, stromal cell compartment and the extracellular matrix (ECM) together generate a multifaceted tumor microenvironment. Matrix metalloproteinases and their TIMPs provide a means for tumor-stromal interaction during tumorigenesis," scientists in Canada report.
