Researchers describe findings in apoptosis studies

Apoptosis research advances have been reported from France, the United Kingdom and Germany.

Study 1: According to recently published research from France, alcohol increases tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) and decreases nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-kappa B) to activate hepatic apoptosis in genetically obese mice.

"Both obesity and alcohol can cause oxidative stress, cytokine induction, and steatohepatitis. To determine the consequences of their combination, we compared the hepatic effects of moderate ethanol binges in lean and obese ob/ob mice," wrote M.A. Robin and colleagues, University of Paris 07.
