Indian marketing approval on generic Tamiflu obtained by Cipla

Cipla has received marketing approval from the Drug Controller General of India to market the generic version of Tamiflu, the bird-flu drug globally marketed by Roche. A senior representative with Cipla confirmed the development and said the chemically similar drug would be priced lower than the branded Tamiflu. An analyst tracking the segment said Cipla would be able to market the drug in India, as there is no patent on the drug there, according to the company.
