Researchers from Germany, the United States and Turkey report recent findings in cardiology

Cardiology research advances have been reported from Germany, the United States and Turkey.

Study 1: Fluid extravasation in the heart was more effectively prevented with albumin than crystalloid or artificial colloid resuscitation fluids.

According to recent research published in the journal Anesthesiology, "Fluid extravasation may lead to myocardial edema and consequent reduction in ventricular function. Albumin is presumed to interact with the endothelial glycocalyx. The objective was to compare the impact of different resuscitation fluids (human albumin, hydroxyethyl starch, saline) on vascular integrity."
