Abarelix was approved in November 2003 for the palliative treatment of men with advanced symptomatic prostate cancer. In May 2004 docetaxel was approved for use in combination with prednisone as a treatment for patients with androgen independent (hormone refractory) metastatic prostate cancer. Additionally, in October 2004 U.S. Food & Drug Administration approved histrelin for the palliative treatment of advanced prostate cancer.
