Bladder cancer patient eligibility for cisplatin-based chemotherapy limited by renal impairment

Eligibility of bladder cancer patients for adjuvant cisplatin-based chemotherapy was limited by renal impairment, especially in the elderly; better patient selection for cisplatin and more effective non-cisplatin regimens are needed.

"Perioperative cisplatin-based chemotherapy has shown benefit in patients with high-risk localized urothelial bladder cancer, but it is not widely used. Renal impairment may be a major factor limiting its use," scientists writing in the journal Cancer reported.
