Colorectal cancer methylator phenotype linked to JC virus T-antigen expression

The methylator phenotype in colorectal cancers (CRCs) could be associated with JC virus (JCV) T-antigen (T-Ag) expression through multiple mechanisms of genetic and epigenetic instability. "JCV is a polyomavirus that ubiquitously infects humans and has been implicated in various human cancers. JCV encodes a 'transforming' gene, T-Ag, which is believed to mediate the oncogenic potential of the virus," scientists in the United States reported.
