"Production of Infectious Virus by Rabbit Cells Transfected with Cloned HIV-1."

According to an abstract presented by the authors to the 2nd National Conference on Human Retroviruses and Related Infections, held January 29 - February 2, 1995, in Washington, DC, "Rabbit cell lines infected with HIV-1, do not produce virus at levels comparable to similarly infected human cells. One factor in this difference is inefficient binding of HIV-1 to rabbit CD4. Other steps in the infection process are implicated in this deficiency by the fact that rabbit cells transfected with HuCD4 do not support infection to levels seen in human cells.
