FDA Set to Evaluate New Vaccine Technology

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is prepared to evaluate new preventive and therapeutic vaccines based on emerging technologies, according to Karen Goldenthal, director of vaccines and related product applications for the FDA's Center for Biologicals Evaluation and Research (CBER).

In an address to the Third Annual Vaccines: New Technologies and Applications Conference, held March 20-22 in Alexandria, Virginia, Goldenthal noted that current areas of vaccine development include new combination vaccines, less reactogenic vaccines, novel adjuvants, polysaccharide conjugate vaccines, and new clinical indications for existing vaccines.
