Researchers Develop Gene Transfer Methods to Treat Inflammatory Diseases

The prospect of treating arthritis and other joint disorders with gene therapy is feasible, and the delivery of an appropriate gene to joints can prevent intraarticular pathology.

While developing ex vivo and in vivo gene transfer methods for treating inflammatory diseases, researchers at the University of Pittsburgh have used transfer of genes encoding anti-inflammatory agents to block allograft transplant rejection.
